Although we enjoy some meals out when we travel, we generally book accommodation with kitchen facilities (particularly when travelling domestically). We love being able to prepare some meals, particularly after a big day out exploring. The benefits of saving money aside, it’s a part of our holiday we really look forward to. Sitting outside, watching the sunset and eating a meal together as a family is so nice – Not to mention healthier!
I have a few tips to make meals away an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
Meal plan
I’m not talking a day by day plan but rather a couple of meals that you know you have up your sleeve for those big days. If I’m travelling for 7 nights, I will plan at least 4 meals (giving myself flexibility for the other 3 nights).
Online Grocery Deliveries are huge timesavers on holidays!
Have your groceries arrive 1-2 hours after you arrive with all of your staples for breakfasts and lunches as well as your pre-planned meals.
Take shortcuts
It’s okay to buy sliced cheese, packed cooked rice and simmer sauces whilst you’re away! Make life easy for yourself, you will still be saving significantly more than if you were to be eating out every night.
Meal ideas
These are fun meals the whole family will enjoy but most importantly they are quick and easy to prepare with minimal washing up!
