This 5 Minute Garlic Bread is the ideal simple side to whip up to go with all manner of meals, from pasta to barbecue. Use a baguette or whatever bread you like and melted cheese is an optional addition!

  • Total Time: 10 mins
  • Yield: 4–6 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 80 g (23/4 oz) unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp freshly minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp sea salt flakes
  • 1 baguette, cut into thick 1.5 cm (1/2 inch) slices
  • 11/2 cups (225 g) grated melting cheese (see note 1), optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven grill (broiler).
  2. Melt the butter in 10-second intervals in the microwave until it softens (it will take roughly 20 seconds).
  3. Mix in the garlic, parsley and salt using a spoon.
  4. Spread the butter mixture on one side of the bread slices.
  5. Top each slice with the grated cheese, if using.
  6. Place your bread on a baking tray (use two trays if needed so that no pieces overlap). Grill (broil) for 2–5 minutes. The bread will cook quickly so keep an eye on it.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

Note 1 – Mozzarella or cheddar is best. Pre-shredded cheese can be used but contains additives, so it doesn’t melt as well as freshly grated cheese.

MAKE AHEAD

Follow the recipe up until step 5. Refrigerate, covered, for up to 24 hours. Cook as per the recipe. Check out my Freezer Friendly Garlic Bread for a freezer alternative.
